How Ken Mehlman of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. Works in Co-Ordination with the Environmental Defense Fund

Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) was launched in the 1970’s and orginally the firm’s specialty was in leveraged buyouts. However, they have launched a novel green proposal which focuses not alone on how lucrative a business is, but likewise on how ecologically aware each of their companies are.

KKR’s Henry Kravis and the non-profit environmental advocacy group Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) joined forces a year ago, with the mission of making green business practices an acknowledged principle. Big issues like toxic waste and egregious consumption of water resources are an all-important part of their company mission statement. To achieve these goals, they employ a method called eco-efficiency which uses techniques like reducing the waste of resources, fuel economy, and reducing the dispersion of toxic chemicals. Irrespective of the fact that the program was an enormous success, managment simply didn’t understand how important the consequences truly were until Ken Mehlman, the head of the project and global public affairs, studied the figures for the first 12 months. Ken Mehlman discovered that eco-efficiency wasn’t merely reducing their impact on the planet, but it was also saving companies a large amount of money, making the program almost an immediate hit. At the time of writing, KKR and Ken Mehlman have nearly all of their firms involved in eco-efficiency techniques. Seeing that this group of companies has a net worth of 86 billion dollars, you may be sure this was not an easy feat. KKR and the Environmental Defense Fund along with Ken Mehlman are developing the Green Portfolio project. The Climate Corps Program administered by the Environmental Defense Fund is an example of this, it heightens awareness of eco-efficient principles to MBA interns.

Furthermore, Ken Mehlman has collaborated closely with Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co to produce a package of metrics and analytical tools that companies can employ to quantify resources. This type of data is invaluable as companies can assess all of their day to day processes and find out where any issues may be resolved while at the same time tracking their progress.

Today’s business community has been entirely transformed by the efforts of these individuals. In conclusion, these systems have made ecologically friendly business techniques not only viable, but commercially desirable, and their radical ideas are setting a new standard in today’s business community.
