Everything College Students Should Understand Concerning Medical Insurance Policies

It is very easy to ignore medical insurance policies while planning for a college education. Most students are by and large at an age where health insurance is the very last thing they think of. When you are in your 20’s you will generally believe that you will live forever so you will never suffer from any illness. Regrettably, irrespective of how well a person may seem, it is no guarantee of their future health. A suitable student health insurance policy isn’t for the wealthy, it’s absolutely necessary.

Students who are included in a family policy are in the main included up until their twenty-third birthday. For anyone who does not currently have coverage under a family plan, obtaining an appropriate student health insurance plan should be apart of getting ready for a college education. What is essential in medical insurance targeted at college students? So what is a deductible? It’s a yearly amount you must pay before the medical benefits commence, in the same vein as an auto insurance plan. To give an example, if your deductible is 500 dollars, $500 has to be paid before applying for any benefits from your plan. So what is your co-pay? When your deductible is met, normally for each trip to the physician, medicine, and procedure you will be asked to contribute a portion of the bill. That, in a nutshell, is a co-pay.

Precisely what should the health insurance pay for? Most plans are HMO or Partnership for Prescription Assistance. In essence this can mean certain doctors might be excluded from your “network” and may not be included on the insurance plan. Almost all plans will include a directory of approved professionals, be sure to take that into consideration when you select medical insurance.

Catastrophic medical insurance coverage: Limits are common in college student medical insurance policies especially with reference to catastrophic illness, the amount of coverage included in most student medical insurance policies is by and large lower than a standard plan.

Restrictions: Student medical insurance plans frequently have various limits. It is important to study the policy carefully to find out just what may and may not be covered. Keep all your medical insurance details nearby at all times. Accidents and illnesses are not just impossible to anticipate, they’re also likely to hit when least expected. Make sure you’re au fait with your policy, whether you’re covered by your parents or you have taken your own choice of insurance.

Cartoons in the 80’s: A Golden Age

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

As a child, I remember sitting in front of my television every Saturday morning with my sisters, anxiously waiting for Muppet Babies (1984-1992) to come on. Once the theme song began playing, we just knew that all was right with the world. In our world, we played with Gonzo and Miss Piggy as they soared into outer space; we rode rockets and walked on the moon alongside the characters. All the while making it home in time for Nanny to tuck them into bed, and our mom to make lunch.

Another cartoon I remember fondly is the The Wonderful World of David the Gnome (1988) on Nickelodeon. In this show, we followed David and his wife, Lisa, as they traveled through the forest rescuing various animals and people, all the while outwitting trolls who were nearly twenty times their sizes. Although it didn’t come on Saturday mornings, my sisters and I were fans, and still know pieces of the theme song today. “Look around you, there are many things to see, that some would say, could never be….”

At the ripe, old, ages of 17, 20, and 21, respectively, my sisters and I still discuss the cartoons of our childhood; cartoons that we remember warmly and smile when we think about as we work on our resumes and study for exams.

The “Good Ol’ Days,” as we have to come to affectionately refer to the period between 1984 and 1991, were comprised of shows that captured the essence of being young and innocent. They were simple shows with simple messages, and they allowed us to explore worlds with our “friends;” despite whether they were smurfs, turtles, or chipmunks, we knew them and their hopes and fears. From these creatures, I learned about family, friendship, loyalty, and honesty; all lessons that I have carried over from my childhood, and into my adulthood. One day, I will teach my future children what I learned from my “friends” in the way that they taught methrough simple, direct, intelligent, language.

Today, when flipping through the channels on a Saturday morning, instead of seeing Muppet Babies, there is Dora the Explorer; instead of seeing David the Gnome, there is Spiderman. In general, cartoons today seem to pander to their child audiences; children don’t expect much, so they shouldn’t be given much by way of story or characterization.

Of course, there are exceptions, as there are always exceptions to generalized statements; however, for the most part, cartoons today do not capture the charisma of the cartoons from the 80s. In this respect, I feel almost sorry for today’s children, because they missed out on a time when cartoons were truly great. They will never know how it felt to ride on Swift’s back as we raced through the forest to save a fellow gnome; nor, will they know what it was like to travel through the walls of an old house with little people in The Littles (1983-1986).

GIFT BASKETS - THEY’RE NOT JUST FOR FUNERALS ANYMORE

Posted by admin in Eatery

Dear Abby,
Please help me. I’m perplexed, bothered, and bewildered by this highly unusual conundrum. You’ll probably find this hard to believe, but the source of my perpetual perplexity can easily be summarized in two words: gift baskets. That’s right - gift baskets.

Here’s my dilemma: Up until recently, I considered gift baskets just plain tacky. Granted, a gift basket is a splendid gift idea if one is offering the bereaved condolences after their pet or loved one has departed to greener pastures.

Also, a gift basket is a splendid gift idea when used as a peace offering to make amends.

I’m reminded of a heart-warming tale of reconciliation between a boy named Joey and his beloved grandmother:

Although the winning grand-slam saved the day, turning little Joey into a small-town hero, Joey’s grandmother viewed matters from a slightly different perspective.

As the Small-town Sluggers celebrated their historic victory with pandemonium and Gatorade-laced cocktails, moments earlier, the same game-winning baseball had taken a turn for the worst, rocketing over the meadow and through the window of Joey’s grandmother’s house.

Although she was hospitalized as a result of this wayward baseball, all was subsequently forgiven when little Joey handed granny a gift basket, along with a card that said:

So sorry about the damage I did
Busted your window and then you slid
Though I cannot undo those unfortunate events
Your Persian rug to the cleaners was sent
I demolished your dentures
Your coo-coo clock too
All of these I’ll replace
But I can’t replace you
Though you may not forgive me
At least let me ask it
Accept my apology
And this splendid gift basket!

So dear Abby, I always thought that gift baskets were splendid gift ideas to offer on sad occasions; you know, get well soon! Or please accept this as an expression of our deepest sympathies.

But certainly a gift basket was not something someone would give a spouse or significant other on Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Easter, Hanukah, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, not to mention birthdays, weddings, housewarmings, graduations, and other special occasions. Or was it?

I’m asking for your advice because recently, the unthinkable happened. It was simultaneously frightful yet delightful. Out of the blue, an anonymous someone sent me a gift basket from a company called SplendidGiftIdeas.com.

“Hmm. What’s the occasion?” I wondered. “Did somebody die?”

At first I thought I’d save this for the next funeral. But then I thought, “No, better eat this stuff now before it spoils. Besides, I hear on good authority people are starving in Third World Countries and I better do my part.

I started with the popcorn. Wow! Now this was not your typical popcorn. This was top-shelf, gourmet popcorn!! And I thought Orville made good popcorn. Does this popcorn have a secret recipe, like KFC? I gobbled it up. And the other products were just as good. We’re talking Cookies, Wholesome Treats, Chocolate Mini Bites, Wholesome Granola, Chocolate Fudge, Buttery Sugar Pops, etc. And that was just for starters. I later learned the company sold over a hundred different varieties of products and gift baskets. I had no idea there were that many kind of gift baskets in the universe. And I never knew gift basket goodies could taste so good.

Psst! Again, the company is SplendidGiftIdeas.com (http://www.splendidgiftideas.com/)

How could I have been so wrong for so long about gift baskets. Now I know that gift baskets are for all occasions. They’re not just for funerals anymore.

Splendidly yours,

Basket case

Dear Basket case,
My advice is, better stock up on gift baskets from SplendidGiftIdeas.com - now! As delicious as those products are, there may not be anything left. Do your part to stop world hunger. And whatever you do, don’t advertise this on the internet. Let’s keep this hush-hush. The last thing we want is for millions of people worldwide to go to http://www.splendidgiftideas.com/ and start buying gift baskets.

For more information, go to http://www.splendidgiftideas.com/ But
please, save a few gift baskets for the rest of us.
