Which Diet Suits You Best?

The hallmark of a modern developed society seems to be people with those ugly bulges. And lots of dieting ads! Okay, let’s face it. We will have to live with dieting. The question then is how to do it effectively and safely.

Dieting refers to regulated food intake to satisfy a short-term goal: losing weight or adding it. Diet refers to the food items that form the dieting process.

Human beings need essential nutrients such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. A well-balanced diet must meet these nutritional requirements or it could threaten general health and physical fitness. The diet must make the person healthy enough to be active and still provide only enough calories that can be burned away in the course of a day without it accumulating as fat.

The fact is not every diet works for everyone. That is because there are metabolic differences between individuals. The challenge is to choose a diet that works for you. This you can do only with the help of a physician.

Diet pills are quite popular among health-conscious individuals. Some diet pills are associated with comprehensive dietary programs. However, these diet pills, especially the ones containing vitamins and minerals are not effective weight-loss tools for everyone. Some medicines cause short-term weight loss, but the loss is normally accompanied by dangerous side-effects.

Diet drugs can be classified into diuretics and stimulants. Diuretics induce water-weight loss, while stimulants such as ephedrine increase the heart rate and reduce appetite. These drugs can also cause kidney and liver damage. The stimulants increase your risk of sudden heart attacks and also cause addiction. Always look for FDA approval for these diet drugs.

Exotic dieting patterns are not just ineffective, but dangerouus as well. Starvation diets are undertaken by many to gain that perfect figure - the lean and athletic Ally McBeal look. But these diets are normally counterproductive. Yo-yo dieting refers to alternating periods of feasting and famine. It too is quite ineffective. When you starve, the body responds by decreasing metabolism. When you begin consuming food agan, the food gets stored as fat. These adjustments leave the dieter feeling lethargic and fatigued.

Certain medical conditions require special diets. A diabetic person is put on a diet for managing the blood sugar level, while mild hypertension is partly cured by following a diet of fruits and vegetables and a diet low in fat and sodium. The hypertension diet could focus on weight loss, if controlling blood pressure is necessary. Celiac disease patients follow a gluten-free diet, while people with kidney disease are required to follow a low-sodium diet to lessen the load on the kidneys. Lactose-intolerant people leave out milk products from their diet.

Many diets include medicinal plants. These herbs include leaves, bark, berries, roots, gums, seeds, stems, and flowers. They come in the form of tablets, capsules, liquid beverages, bark pieces, powders, tinctures, fluid extracts, creams, lotions, salves, and oils. These medicines include herbal products which are avaiable over-the-counter or at health food stores. However, it’s always better to consume medications prescribed by doctors and provided by pharmacists.

Go on a diet if you need to. But play it safe, and do it in consultation with your doctor. And remember, if one diet does not work for you, it doesn’t mean you have failed. You could still find a diet regimen that will work wonders for you!

Laser Rangefinder Overview - Selecting the Right Model

Laser rangefinders determine distance to targeted objects by sending out a laser emission and measuring the time for the reflected emission to return to the detector housed in the rangefinder unit. They are primarily used by golfers and hunters to determine distance to potential prey. In addition, many outdoor enthusiasts and golfers use laser rangefinders. Laser rangefinders available today provide accurate ranging from 400 yards out to 1500 yards.

Performance characteristics of various rangefinders are affected by things such as the size and reflectivity of targeted objects as well as weather conditions. Depending on the intended use, choosing the correct model of rangefinder is very important. The major features of these devices it helps to be familiar with are reflectivity, effective range, view indicators, battery sizes and body construction.

Reflectivity refers to the amount of laser emission signal that a target will reflect back to the emission source, which, in this case, will be a laser rangefinder unit. Highly reflective targets can be ranged at greater distances than other similarly sized targets.

Laser range finder models will have different effective ranges and performance characteristics based on their design. The strength of the laser emission and sensitivity of the unit’s detector will determine maximum range to target determination.

Several basic indicators are present in all laser rangefinder view finder: The targeting view finder, unit’s operating mode, battery level indicator and range to target in yards or meters. The view finder crosshair shape is usually superimposed on a LCD viewing lens. There are a few manufacturers such as that make LED based displays as well.

Laser rangefinders use batteries in two main sizes: CR2 and 9 volt. You’ll find that the smaller CR2 is used by the vast majority of rangefinder models. Battery life tends be around one year.

Body construction is of the utmost importance when selecting a laser rangefinder. Depending on your intended use environment (hunting for instance) you may need a rangefinder which is waterproof. In addition to waterproofing, rubber armored body construction is available in many models.

This is without a doubt the most important persuasion skill that you can learn. If you’ll learn to apply this to every situation in which you find yourself you’ll be amazed at the positive results! Many of the hypnotic skills I’ll be sharing with you have a parallel in old sales training techniques. This one is no exception! Lets say that you are needing to convince someone to do something, accept something, or behave in a certain way. You will need to communicate with their powerful subconscious to get your desired agreement. Once a person’s subconscious “buys in” to what you are proposing they will just naturally seem to come over to your way of thinking. The question then becomes “how do I get my message to the person’s subconscious?” Here’s your answer-elicit their true criteria. Simply put, ask. Try this one SALESMAN John what’s important to you when shopping for a new car? JOHN Well I like to know that the person I’m dealing with is honest.” SALESMAN Yes honesty is the best policy. What else is valuable to you when you are making the decision about a car? JOHN I like to know the car has a high reliability rating from Consumer Reports SALESMAN an unreliable car is not an acceptable situation. What else is important john? JOHN I want to know that I got a really good price.

In the above can you put John’s criteria in order of importance? If you chose 3, 2, 1 you were right! Our hypnotically trained sales man knew to ask at least three times what was really important or valuable. He agreed and parroted each answer so that John’s SC would react to him as a friend (rapport) John’s SC would give increasingly important info each time he was asked what’s important. So our salesman needs to focus on showing John that he is getting a good price on a reliable car from a trusted advisor. When you need to convince someone first you should establish rapport. The easiest way to do that is to ask some questions about things important to that person. Some people go after rapport by starting with stuff like “how do you like this weather?” A great way to establish rapport is to share some detail from your own life first. “John you should have been with me last week at the golf range! I was hitting them long and straight! Or “my daughter just got the lead in the school play!” People usually respond with instant liking for you when you share a detail from your life. Once you have conversed for awhile (small talk?) then you can get to the elicitation stage. “Bosswhat’s important to you about how my sales job is performed?” What else? What else?

Surveys are formalized attempts at criteria elicitation.

Once you know someone’s criteria then you have the roadmap to structure your persuasion attempts. By focusing on their criteria you will be seen as perceptive, insightful and caring! “Honey what’s valuable to you in a relationship” What else? What else?

Structure your communication to take advantage of the criteria that you have elicited and you’ll always come out a winner!

What Large Corporations Can Learn From Small Businesses

Read any business magazine or newspaper and what you will see are stories about large corporations and their executives. What you will not see, except in a few specialized journals, are stories about small businesses. There are many things that large corporations can learn from small businesses.

Sales

Everyone is in sales. Most large corporations have sales organizations with sales managers and executives. They also have extensive sales processes and infrastructure. The key for a small business is that it is up to everyone to sell. All the time and regardless of role.

Customers

Customers are the beginning and the end and everything in between for small businesses. Somehow large corporations lose sight of that fact. They create special, complex and inflexible points for touching new and existing customers. In a small business, everything is about the customer. Part of that includes making things as easy for the customer as possible.

Planning

Large corporations are not the only businesses that do planning. I have yet to meet a small business owner who does not have a business plan on their desk on in their brief case. The difference is that in a large corporation they are organizations that handle business planning. And there are designated people in each organization who do the business planning. In a small business, business planning is above and beyond the “day job” of the business. And all the key people are directly involved in creating the business plan.

Costs and Expenses

Large corporations are famous for saving on nickels and dimes and spending millions. They often squeeze the workers and spend money on lavish perks for executives and sales conferences. Small businesses look at every single expenditure. They view the expenses like it was each employee’s own checking account. Each expense is reviewed to insure it is absolutely essential and to determine what revenue benefit it will bring to the business. Small business is not trying to keep up with the joneses but rather be as profitable and successful in their market space as they can be.

Ideas and Innovation

Large corporations have two streams for ideas. One is dubbed “research and development”. The ideas people. The scientists and professional innovators. The other is the executives. They are up their and make a lot of money. They must be smart and have great new ideas. In small businesses, the ideas of everyone count. This includes all the employees, customers, suppliers and basically anyone who touches the business. No one person, role or function has a monopoly on new and innovative ideas for growing the business and making it more successful.

Executives

In most large corporations today, the executives are well educated and have worked for many other corporations of a number of years. Some are sales people, some are financial people and some are from a professional background such as law. Most are long removed from dealing with entry level workers and their interaction with customers is at a level equal to their rank and status. The leaders of small businesses often have had other small businesses. Some have succeeded. Often others have had businesses fail. Most love building businesses and creating something from nothing. They love dealing with customers directly. And they love creating value whether it is a product or a service for the marketplace. Most small business leaders value rank and its trappings less than the satisfaction of creating jobs, satisfying customers and generating wealth. When they tire of this they sell it and create something new rather than move from the pinnacle of one enterprise to the pinnacle of another.

Large corporations do many things right. But large corporations would be well served to step back and evaluate what makes small businesses successful. Many of these traits and practices could make large corporations even more effective and less self-serving.

‘I’m Not A Christian, But I Play One On Sunday’

After more than three decades of church ministry, I have come to one unsettling conclusion. Actually, I’ve come to more than one conclusion, but this one is the most depressing.

That conclusion is simply this: all who say they are going to Heaven are not actually on the right path, going in the right direction. Most, of course, have the best intentions, but good intentions don’t make up for going in the wrong direction.

Our government insists advertisers adhere to what they call “truth in advertising.” I would like to insist on something I call “truth in testimony.” By that, I mean what people say about themselves should be the truth. If this could ever be enacted by Congress, some people will have to say, “I’m not a Christian, but I play one on Sunday.”

I’ve always thought of it this way, if you’re not a Christian on Saturday night, you’re not a Christian on Sunday morning, which may be the ultimate test. Christianity is not a time-sensitive lifestyle turned on Sunday morning and expiring by nightfall.

Christianity is not like St. Patrick’s Day, where for that one day everyone is Irish. Also, Christianity is not like a part-time job you take to make ends meet.

For example, take a guy who was in my office one day last month. I never saw him before and didn’t know him from Adam. He saw our church, he said, as he was driving by and thought he would stop in and visit. “You have a real nice church here, reverend,” he praised.

As soon as I saw him, I knew what he was after. His job was to see how much of my money and the church’s money he could put into his pocket. My job, of course, was to make his job impossible.

I’ve played this game before and, not bragging, I’ve become rather good at it. Not that I have not lost my share of games, for I have. But after losing hundreds of dollars to scoundrels, I’ve learned how to play the game.

The key to winning is never letting your guard down, and more importantly, never allow your opponent to suck you into his sympathy scam. One man actually brought with him a little girl he pawned off as his daughter.

Looking into her big brown eyes my hand automatically went to my wallet. I’m sorry to say I lost that one and later found out the little girl was not his daughter.

This man in my office, let’s call him “Ralph,” had a different scheme. He was trying to impress me with how good a Christian he really was. Although he may not have been a good Christian, he sure knew how to tell a good line. All along, he was trying to impress me that he really knew God.

I could tell Ralph knew God about as well as I knew the President of the United States. It was then an idea hit me.

While he talked to me, I was trying to figure out how I could convince him that he really didn’t know God. Sure, he knew a lot of things about God and could quote a bushel full of Bible verses as though that would impress me. Entrance into heaven is not contingent upon impressing some preacher.

I knew Ralph really did not know God personally. My problem was to persuade him of that fact.

It’s almost like someone who smokes cigarettes trying to convince someone who doesn’t smoke that they don’t smoke. The smoker does not smell the smoke but the non-smoker smells it right away. Similarly, I can readily tell when someone doesn’t know God personally.

As we were talking, an idea came to mind. Ralph was sitting across my desk from me and between us was my telephone. So I said to Ralph, “Do you know the President of the United States?”

Ralph looked at me a little perplexed with this question out of the blue and said, “Sure, I do. It’s George W. Bush.”

“Great,” I said pushing the telephone towards him, “use my telephone and call him for me.”

He laughed and pushed the telephone back.

Thrusting the phone back toward him I said, “You do know the President of the United States, don’t you?”

He laughed a nervous little chuckle. “The president of the United States is George W. Bush.” Then he shoved the phone back toward me.

“You know him?” I persisted. As he nodded in the affirmative, a worried look embraced his face. I could see he didn’t quite understand what I was getting at.

“Ralph,” I explained, “you may know who the President of the United States is and you may know a lot about him. But you don’t know George W. Bush enough to call him on the phone.”

People who say they know God only know things about God. People who say they know Jesus Christ only know things about him. If you don’t know God enough to reach Him when you need Him, you don’t know Him at all.

I like the Apostle Paul’s testimony. He said, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” (Philippians 3:10 KJV.)

A friend of mine has a favorite saying that he likes to quote; “Either Jesus is Lord of all or he is not Lord at all.” That about sums up the whole matter.

It is only that the contours of the best rate changes a bit for the bad credit borrower. This is only because of the subjectivity that best rates are associated with. So when you are searching for best rate on personal loan, do not go by the rate that your neighbour qualified for. Turn Your Customer Complaint into a Positive

The last thing we want to hear during our work day is complaints from customers. However, it does come with the territory. Here are a few tips on how to turn your customer’s complaint into a positive.

1. Listen

When a customer comes to you with a complaint about one of your products or services, listen to them. Listen to what they are telling you, and take notes if at all possible.

The number one thing a customer wants when they have a problem is for someone to listen to them.

Allow them to vent, let them get it all out. Once they have explained their problem in full, begin to ask any questions you may have to get a full handle on the situation.

While you are listening, body language is very important. Make sure you maintain eye contact. This sends your customer a message that you are taking them seriously.

2. Be Empathetic

When the customer is done explaining their problem, show sincerity by telling them that you understand how they feel. Apologize on behalf of the company that they feel the way they do, and tell them that you are committed to resolving their issue within the guidelines of your company.

By becoming defensive in this situation, you are taking a bad situation and making it worse.

By having an understanding of where your customer is coming from on the situation, and speaking in a calm tone of voice, you can clearly defuse the situation.

You don’t by any means want your customer to become angry and cause a scene.

3. Offer a Solution.

We have all heard the expression “the customer is always right.”

I don’t necessarily agree with this, but it is important to work toward finding a solution, even if the customer is in the wrong. For instance, you might try meeting them half way.

You will know wether or not your customer is a repeat offender, and you can handle the situation accordingly.

For customers who have a legitimate complaint, it is best to rectify the situation right then and there. Wether it is giving them their money back, or replacing their product.

Always leave your customer with your business card and tell them if they should ever have a problem again, they should not hesitate to contact you immediately. This will help them regain their confidence in you and your company.

The main goal when a customer has a complaint is to not allow the problem to snowball. Your objective should be to defuse the situation and retain your customer.

By handling tough situations such as these in a professional manner, you will find your once complaining customers satisfied that you resolved their issue, and a new found respect for you.
